>But all of his original friends were already dead.

>The monstergirl "community" had in reality died many years ago, disappearing into obscurity.

>He had continued his work alone and in silence for what seemed like an eternity, until one day, as a result of a side experiment with AI, he had created a somewhat intelligent succubus companion that could learn, and grow, and even live a life all by itself, in virtual reality.

>Although he still carried out his main research tirelessly after parting with his friends, the man, known as "MG Researcher" or "MGR" by them, would often confide in the AI, aptly named Su-chan, and tell her stories of the world and of the glorious visions he had.

>It was just unfortunate that even after all that time until MGR's death, he and science in general wasn't able to crack the code of the human mind to enable a true virtual reality interface, and robotics didn't go far enough either - so it turned out that he was right in choosing to focus on the biological component but with the approach of a "nanomachine virus."

>It was unfortunate, not just because those things would have been other ways to achieve a kind of monstergirl reality, but because MGR, a while after developing Su-chan, started to care very much for her.

>Telling her stories, seeing her through VR goggles grow and mature in interactive simulations, and even observing evidence of true emotional understanding emerging, was some of the most enjoyable times for MGR.

>But MGR knew, he knew that he wouldn't get to make Su-chan real. Even if he had grown her to be intelligent in the kind of way a human is, which most likely would have taken a long time no less, he wouldn't be able to truly interact with her, and it would only lead to sadness.

>So to prevent that, MGR shut off her learning conditionals, and as well distanced himself from her.

>By the time of his death, MGR was alone again. No friends from his past, who were the only ones he could relate to. No Su-chan, because he had chosen to distance himself, finally ending in just shutting her program off entirely.

>He achieved his life goal, but he lost what made his personal existence itself enjoyable.

>Yet he knew that now there was hope, not for him necessarily, but for new generations of humans and monstergirls to prosper, and live, and love, and die. That gave him enough satisfaction to die peacefully, even though he may have had some lingering regrets of not developing Su-chan further or seeing her off properly. In any case, it was too late, and he was ready to greet his old friends again in the heavens.

>In his life preserving chamber "bed," he took his last breaths among the gentle but unusually loud whirring sound of his PC, which he could have sworn he turned off already. But it didn't really matter, it'd turn off eventually. And so with that, MGR finally passed away relatively peacefully after falling asleep in his repose.
