Eirin, an actuary hired by the SDM estimates that all employees in the SDM have 20 years til retirement and will live 5 years after retirement. She uses a discount rate of 10% and it is calculated that the actual return on plan assets is 8%. Meiling's final salary is estimated to be $5. What is the pension expense SDM will record for the year of 2009 and what is the pension benefit obligation on Jan 1, 2010?
