I dropped down to the ground. Marisa made sure to greet me with a clap “Congrats! How’s it feel to get your first win? You’re going to be a natural at this, I can tell. Sorry for lying about you, but I had to convince her to fight you somehow.”

“Wow, that was easier then I thought” I said, more to myself then Marisa. Now it seemed like honing my skills wasn’t an impossible feat. I just needed the right practice and I could get stronger.

“Just keep at it and put in plenty of practice” Marisa advised me. “There’s going to be no shortage of people looking to pick fights for one reason or another so you’re not gonna run short. Just don’t try to beat up anyone too scary, okay?” I nodded in agreement. “That’s enough for now. Let’s head back” Marisa said as she started to head back to her place.

I remembered that I was going to ask her someone. ‘Ah Marisa, do you have plans this evening? You haven’t seen dad for a long time so maybe you’d like to have dinner at our place? I asked.

Marisa spun to meet me, a grin on her face “Sounds good to me! I was trying to find a good opportunity to meet him again, but dinner would be the best. His cooking would be a lot better then what I had planned for tonight, it’s been so too long since I’ve had one of his meals!” I had seen the meals Marisa prepared while I was training with her, it was a wonder the girl was even alive at this point.

“But there’s something else” I said as I put on a serious tone. “I met my mother again. I think she’s going to be poking around. Dad said he wants to stay separated from her, but who knows what she’ll do. Could I ask you to help you to keep an eye out for him? He still has his pride, so please don’t overdo it or let him know I told you this” I felt bad going behind dad’s back like this but I needed help. Having someone like Marisa to keep her at bay if she made any moves would help us so much.

Marisa stared back at me, her smile pulling into a tight frown. It almost seemed out of place on someone usually so freeflowing and upbeat. “I thought that might happen sooner or later. She just can’t accept things are over.” she sighed “I can’t look over him all the time, but I’ll see what I can do. Just come to me if you need help, got it? I’m not going to screw it up this time. Trust me”

“Thanks Marisa” I responded. I gave her directions to our place and a time to be there. She waved me off as I flew off to help dad make dinner.
