I assume it's just the old Japanese artstle they were going for. It's probably intentional.
Old Japanese art is/was shit. I'm really dissapointed they didnt have an era with paintings like pic related. Now it would be postwar Japanese stuff, which wouldnt have the same spirit as pre war Japan.I mean fuck, they could have made some stunning art.
