I did some research on the story and I think it was just somebody shitposting on /news4vip/ for a month. Those threads got reposted to a summary blog then translated and somehow gathered this "scary story" following who thinks Shobon is sort of stalker emoticon when it isn't.

Anyways, the one-off "A-ko" (A子) thread was back in March 6, 2011, while the "Denko" (デン子) threads ran from April 6, 2011 to May 2, 2011. The "Denko" threads were mostly led by the OP who used the tripcode: ◆fqmjWRH5ujSm

I noticed that the tripcode later appears in a /toy/ exchange thread in late 2011, then made a few witty replies on the /dame/ (Jobless & Hopeless) board in late 2012. These posts aren't very interesting, but I don't think a college student would be posting in a thread for people over 30.
