I had some major problems with my custom music a couple of patches ago. Some of the tracks didn't play, so I was thinking it was something to do with it not reading the codec of certain tracks correctly. In your case, you might want to check and see if all the new tracks are included, along with the names. Move the musiclist.txt so it creates a new default when the game loads up, then add the lines you might be missing to the old custom one.

Not really, but I always had more luck with the bandit ambushes. You could always try loading up on cargo and baiting them. It's kind of a waste to recruit the Kaneda bike, but they're nice for Somas, since those increase your stats more than blessed restore body/spirit potions.

If you're that desperate for luck, the dog cop in Plus gives a luck bonus too, when you complete his quest. Those cats can be tough to find since Cacy doesn't summon them now.
