Just use examples.

Some old-world slaves might have been happy with their lives and willing to work for their masters, but they were still slaves. That old legal definition of slavery is that people are property, not necessarily that they don't have free will.

In domination practice, it's not really a slave relationship until you become her property, but just because you take something, it doesn't make it yours. The original owner must relinquish ownership, acknowledging that that property isn't theirs anymore regardless of whether or not they know it was taken from them.

In the context of the modern world where people generally own themselves unless imprisoned or minor, if they take you and you relinquish ownership of yourself, making yourself a commodity that they may freely expend, that's when you become their slave.
