You only desecrate it when you take something away from it especially without permission from the government that ship served under since even if it sunk in foreign waters, if I remember correctly, the government where the ship served still has the rights on it. Other than that you can dive on it to investigate, see the reason why she sunk, remember the people who lived and fought on it, snap some photos and leave, unlike others who salvages them without permission
