It's called loyalty. And if you wanna nitpick, Okuu was the only truly "dastardly" scheme of theirs. Stuff such as palanquin treasure hunt, obtaining faith from desire spirits, the dam project and the cable car are pretty mild as far as Gensokyo goes. Compare Nitori's scams or Reimu's trying to convince people that they have to buy her air pipes to survive the falling star.

Not sure how the concept of "nicer Haruhi in Gensokyo" could be called boring, nor what kind of bullshit does she supposedly force on other people.

Her Hisoutensoku campaign is nothing interesting? And if you want boring, look no further than Reimu who resolves incidents only out of duty or Sakuya with her cold and goal-driven approach. She's closer to the fun personified that is Marisa rather than anyone else among the protagonists. And elaborate on how is she corrupt please.

But Gray Thaumaturgy *does* fit as her signature move - her clever idea about turning a recitation into a Spell Card itself is pretty unique. The only similiar thing that comes to mind is Byakuren's shockwave chant that erases bullets and lightning chant that shoots separate lightnings around her even before unleashing stored lightnings if chanted enough times.
Honestly, I'd rather argue against Gray Thaumaturgy being her signature move for thematic reasons (she is a *wind* priestess and a pentagram made of sacred light is a little too close to Marisa's style), but it's a pretty good choice.
