Fanon bullshit. Humans never even noticed lunarians during the Apollo program. Reisen simply panicked because of exaggerated rumors.

Then in 2004 USA started building a secret military base on the moon. Lunarians got pissed they are exploiting the moon and told them to stop. War started. At first it was going bad for lunarians because moon rabbits were stupid and lazy cowards, but once the sages got involved humans got obliterated.

Then china started it's moon program and lunarians got scared because it was named after the real person and the true leader of the moon rabbits who was imprisoned on the moon (for reasons unknown). Civil unrest and rumors about rebellion started in the lunar capital.

Then SSiB happened.

At unknown point Maribel and Renko are talking about moon tourism. Apparently commercial flights around the moon became possible (but very expensive). Although landing is impossible.
