there is the games which are basically just music videos for the songs and some story after getting the different endings (1-2 for each character)

if you want story, read the printworks (manga and novels) aswell as the stories you get with the music CDs
the titles of music and the music itself tell a lot about characters

ZUN keeps a lot of stuff vague so that everyone can have their own interpretation, but a lot is still clearly defined.
