It's because people are used to the faggotry of "a 17 years old soldier with tons of war experience" JRPGs and some stories have fed them, with characters on their late twenties saying "I'm too old for this shit". So when someone is old enough to realistically have the experience to be badass, they call bullshit. Unless it's Snake or something.

However, in defense of that, it certainly doesn't help that the MILFs are canonically over 40-50 (middle 30s for Rosa) but due to the art in the VN, manga and anime looks 20 something. So tl;dr everyone's ages are fubared.
