I got EXTREMELY emotionally attached but I was abusing emotion-enhancing recreational drugs the whole time I was reading.
I got really into the more grand idea of the social institutions and factions within the world rather than the characters themselves. The exceptions to this for me were just Miyao and Toujirou though, with some honorable mentions for other Warcats + Grave Mole, Maricarmen, and Naima. I'm also a 34fag so of course I liked my two queens, but neither had anything going for them other than Vier's adorable personality/sprites and Jestress smug.
I was able to go through the lens of looking at the how certain ideas are held by certain groups rather than by the individual person (save for Miyao), and the general evolution of certain B3W (our) ideas, rejection of others, and death of some in the A3W world.
I viewed the catharsis in chapter 25 not as one of the characters, but more of the idea of the Walls of Peace and Order of the Public Bath's ideas being crushed by all forces, for reasons related to spite and manipulation by a group that adheres to religious scripture.
I will be completely honest, I was crying about twice as hard as I was during the magic ending, since there wasn't a shred of happiness in anything we saw other than perhaps whatever happened with Pandora's box in the epilogue, and the birth of Miyao made me break down crying from the contrast a second time but that just might be because je suis femoid.
