No the only slave stuff I remember happens on a different island. The ship we're on about now was just a really advanced warship that likely would have killed a lot of people if it arrived at a battle.

If the only way you're the good guy in a story is purely based on a technicality that bends over backwards to apply to literally everyone you're still not the good guy. Fact of the matter is monsters kidnapped a ship full of mostly harmless people and subjected them to a process that if it wasn't hamfisted into being "good" by poor writing would have been 1000x worse than likely whatever the hell the nobles running pre-monster Lescatie got for what they did. Happy endings existing still doesn't make the fact what monsters did in the Court Alf book fucking weird like siding with the shithead prince from Al Mar because he cried a SINGLE time and beating the people of Saida into the dirt when they tried to fight back ONCE after getting treated like shit their entire lives.
