So, I don't know if I'm missing something or if this is context-based fun stuff.

Take 今日は. If I break this down based on meaning it's just 今日/today. What I'm not getting is whether there's any emotional implication like with greetings from any other language I've studied or if Japanese is just a genuinely stale/flaccid language.
