the plot is humanity time traveling into the past in order to create superweapons in order to overcome an existential alien threat. creating infinity timelines, wherein they give humanity shipgirls, destroy all of humanity, and try to use the remaining ship girls to save the future. (you) are in one of these timelines, and (you) are the key to victory. its clear that they never intended for it to go for this long and just did what >>40087339 said to start. but as it stands this is the plot thats running atm
as for what the shipgirls are, beats me. theyre somehow created from the history of the ships theyre named after, and its acknowledged thats the source of their personality, but with the time travel shit we dont even know if that history ever happend in the timeline. and good knows why all the girls fall for you without fail and lets you marry all of them(at once). they really just pull shit out of their ass for the premise, but thats fine, as long as i get high quality fox girls and dont need to spend any real money to get them.
