i just go with the idea that {spoiler] Rust is some weird manifestation of the disease that whittles her subconscious down before smacking what's left, though whether the ending is her dying or somehow getting better depends on my thoughts. [/spoiler]
i like to think the ending is the real world and most of the more grounded dream characters are real in some shape or form, maybe there's some weird time gap where she goes to bed (and cleans her room). from the state of the building from the balcony i can see this being a shit enough part of town that gas mask maids with chainsaws are semi-normal and a disease that may or may not gut your face and make you more violent is a problem, if exaggerated. i don't know, i'm not good at theorizing.
