Some of the hakutakus have opened mouths in the images, and in a later image one of them talks. Maybe I can use that to find out how their mouth movement would look like.

Do you mean that they make the sound a sprout woul dmake whn it'd shoot up quickly, or that the hakutakus behave like sprouts, i.e. that they suddenly pop into the picture?
I'm having a hard time imagining this onomatopoeia.
