Nue and Seija have interacted in canon before, they're not butt buddies but neither is Shinmyoumaru or anyone really.

That's not true at all, she gets along with anyone that serves her as a tool towards her goal and that's not limited to weak youkai.
Take for example DDC's Marisa's ending where she is happy that she made friends with a strong person.

DDC is the best mainline Touhou game, the cast is amazing, the gimmick is fun, rewards an aggressive playstyle and doesn't get in the way like UFO's and this new game.
