I just glanced through the pages and there doesn't seem to be a thread about this. It looks like version 1.02 is out now. Anyone have an idea about what was changed so far? Hopefully nothing major.

Watch videos, read the wiki (which CG linked to), practice BnBs, and play people around your level a lot. As for balance, if you take out the weakest character, with the remaining 10 characters you have possibly one of the most balanced games ever.

also, poking after you block an iad'd aerial is usually a bad thing since it is usually minus on block for the defender.
