I may be wrong that they were classmates or it's the wrong guy. Japanese sources have her ex(should be this guy) as a old friend of her brother. Sounded like he at least went to the same school.

It was her ex's girlfriend/wife/partner that found out about their messages on LINE.

It's possible that she might even have a copy of the log. Now that would be something. Maki's midnight naughty chats with her ex getting leaked. They had been talking for awhile before they got a room. Her ex showed up to one of her events(monster hunter thing?) And that's when he asked maki for her LINE ID. Maki gave it to him and that's when she slowly ended with emotional cheating. The next step was getting a room. Once her ex's significant other found out, they were both fucked and here we are.

Maki's biggest fuck up is thinking they could "just be friends" and giving her LINE ID to her ex.
