as far as AI is a concerned to do mg stuff while they give interesting results and could be helpful for proof of concepts current VAE's really arn't good enough to make anything decent in of themselves , they can do big picture stuff but crap out as soon as it needs to do finer detail I think maybe they need a larger latent space which also means better hardware wich could mean one or two more gpu generations to wait.
