So, Frederica and Rika were different beings, but they still had bonds, because of the game. Frederica still had life in her eyes, because of Rika and her hope. So, what if, when Rika defeated fate, Frederica Bernkastel abandoned her name "Frederica" (because of the similarity with "Furude Rika"), and with that she cuts of her bonds with Rika, becoming finally a real, separate being. Bernkastel also lost the "life" in her eyes because Rika was not with her anymore, there was nobody that could give her hope, give her a meaning of life. I think its also said in the VN, in the character description, that because of the miracles she grants, her heart dies (-->dead eyes).
Anyway, i think that Higurashi was a game between AuAu and Lambda. AuAu just got bored and left Rika to play instead of her.
