I have a stoner mother and a drunk father, both of whom are too incompetent to handle their lives. They disgust me. As a result, I've been a hikikomori/NEET for 7 years now, living off welfare. It's barely enough money so I have to slave away doing odd jobs online, paid under the table through PayPal so I don't lose welfare. Shit sucks, but, oddly, I'm happy this way. I have no life obligations and I love it. A kind of hedonism I suppose.

Anyone else have parents that pretend to have an interest in their stuff? My mother sometimes walks into my room and points out the new figures while asking about them.

"Haha, are those cat ears?"
"Yes, mom. She has cat ears."
"Meow meow. She's actually a cat or just dresses up?"
"She's just dressed up."
"Why does this one have a huge cannon on her arm? And she has that long overcoat and boots, but she has short shorts and a bikini top under."
"Iunno, Huke just thought it was a cool design."
"Hmmm..."


It's kinda annoying because puts up an air of enthusiasm. Though I kinda like it caus she makes me feel like I'm still a little kid. Y'know how parents try to pretend to have an interest in their 5 year old's story about "the craziest thing that happened today"? It could be the most mundane shit ever, and they'll wear a smile and nod, and continue asking about it with fake interest.

Her friends also refer to me as a kid even though I'm 20, which is a tad bit odd considering most of them are only 10-15 years older than me or so, but I'm fine with that. Makes me feel less guilty about being a worthless sack of shit, since kids are supposed to be worthless sacks of shit until they grow up.


So anyone else have parents who pretend to like their otaku stuff? Or, even more strange, parents that are genuinely interested in it?

I was browsing Tohno for a couple hours and I was wondering...just how NEET/hiki /jp/ is? I know most of us like to say we're ronery or rejects or whatever but a lot of people still go to school or work and have friends.
