Maria got a piggyback ride from Battler to admire the snowy rose garden. Little did Battler know that Maria was planning to murder him for speaking badly about her beloved Beatrice. As Battler stood there, Maria on his back, he admired the snow and started to think he made the right choice, coming back to the Ushiromiya family. He'd had a great time today celebrating Christmas. Then Maria lunged from above, stabbing him in the throat. Their eyes meet and Maria's face turns into a hideous grin. Battler toppled over.
Maria sat down on Battler's corpse to untie his shoes, she pulled them on, tied the laces very tightly, and slowly retraced Battler's steps. Creating this illusion was perfect, now everybody back in the mansion would understand what happened to those who speak lowly of Beatrice and magic.
