how'd you guys learn basic vocab without becoming a glorified translator? assuming there's anyone in this thread that actually studies. i'm cramming kanji writing with an srs and doing immersion first but when i'm closer to literate i want to study the actual language. are core decks a meme or does repeating shitty bidict translations in your head for an hour a day actually help words stick? i was thinking about just doing a lot of reading but a lot of resources for people low on vocab are shit easy readers that dont even use kanji for half the words that should have them
