Megumu and Tsukasa are the two characters in the game most directly based on real life lore.
Iizunamaru Megumu is based on Iizuna Gongen in pic related. Originally a native (Shinto) mountain tengu God, Iizunamaru became worshiped as a Gongen, which is when Japanese kami become incorporated into Buddhism.
Iizuna is depicted as riding or being accompanied by a white kitsune, and kuda-gitsune (what Tsukasa is) are also sometimes called 'Izuna'.
Iizuna Gongen is also know as Iizuna Saburou and is one of the eight tengu of Japan (eight famous daitengu). People have been theorising that there are eight daitengu in Gensoukyou because Kurama tengu, another of the eight tengu, has previously been referenced in a chapter of CoLA.
