I thought that making the player the character 'Blink Winkel' was a good use of the VN medium in Ever17.

I thought HF was a great climactic ending to Fate, but there's a lot of crappy shit before getting there, and it's all hyped fights and pseudo-deep explanations for magic and organizations that never affect the story. It was pretty tedious with the retarded antagonists. (Gilgamesh mainly) I think the VNs with slow or repetitive buildup and then a change from that normalcy have the most impact, like Refrain, Muv-Luv Alternative, Symphonic Rain's Al Fine and Da Capo routes.

Overall, I find it kind of hard to pick a favorite, because I value the climactic and emotional parts of a VN over the active overall experience.
