"Well, I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens. I would appear a lot of people have more faith in him than you do. With all of them scheming against her, Yakumo's plans have little chance of continuing much longer."
"Hmmmm, I wouldn't be too sure of that. I took a look at the building, and there's a lot of odd stuff going on there. I thought I knew Yukarin well enough, but it all seems really weird to me."
"Weird how?", Junko asks quizzically.
"Well, it just doesn't seem like the kind of thing she'd do. You know how she usually works; make everything look half-assed and ambiguous, build porous barriers you can easily bypass with a little knowledge, concoct elaborate plans that would fall apart if any of the pieces made an unexpected move, and so on. Basically do everything in the least straightforward way possible. I talked to little Akyuu as she slaved away for the Yama, too, and she said that she never heard anything about Yukari ever acting differently."
"Yes, she does tend to be rather indirect in her approach, but how does this relate to the false shrine building?", Junko says, urging her friend to get to the point.
"Well, that's just it, everything about the building is just surprisingly robust. Layers upon layers of interwoven barriers supporting and reinforcing each other, countless traps spread throughout it while accounting for every possibility, and incredibly formidable magics that all perfectly together, with not a single weakness to be found."
"It'd take some serious magic power to break through all of them. Nothing to either of us, sure, but I dunno if there's anyone down in Gensokyo who could break it all open."
"So Yakumo decided to make a serious effort for once. Is that really so odd?"
"I dunno, Junko. Even if she was completely serious about this, I don't think she actually could make something as good at this."
"Even the Great Hakurei Barrier, her supposed magnum opus, is nowhere near as well-crafted as this. Oh sure, the design is quite elaborate, but the actual power behind the barrier is quite lacking. It's mostly built around trickery and illusions, and even those with only a middling understanding of magic would be able to get through if they kept a level head and don't get lost in its deceit."
"No, I think Yukari had outside help for this one. And when you think about it, it could only be one bunch of people, right?"
"Hecatia, surely you do not mean to say-"
"Of course it's them. Who else could it be?", Hecatia responds, rudely interrupting her friend.
"Who else but the Lunarians would back a scheme like this?! The formidable magics, the slavery, the clear attempt to undermine Gensokyo's stability... It's obviously just another of their plots, and they have Yukari wrapped entirely around their finger."
"You are being ridiculous, Hecatia. You always see Lunarians behind everything. We would have known if Chang'e or her cohorts were behind this."
"She may just be a youkai, but she is still one of Gensokyo's sages. Surely she just went for a different approach than she usually does, and you simply didn't realize she was hiding all this power."
"Youkai do not just change their nature and get smarter on a whim, they're shaped entirely by how they're perceived by humans. Nobody knows Yukari as anything but a secretive bitch, there's no way she manage all this by herself."
"Nonsense, it is simply-"
As their argument grows more and more heated, Junko suddenly collects herself and calms down.
"Now look at us, you actually made me defend the Lunarians of all people."
"I do wish to continue this conversation any further. Let us talk about something else."
"You're right. Sorry Junko, I really flew off the handle there."
"It is okay, I know how passionate you are about your beliefs and would never seek to diminish them. Now, you said that you had an idea for our next assault on the Capital, did you not?"
"Ah right, right. I was thinking-"

Putting Gensokyo's troubles out of their minds, the women move on to more important matters, as they continue their scheming deep into the night.


This is just a little one-shot since I wanted to join on the writing, opting to focus on an outside perspective on the whole situation, with character who is notably not interested in Anon or outright look down on him.
I also figured I'd make Yukari look a little better, since she's practically an underdog now, but I'll leave it up in the air how much of these girls' assessments are actually correct.
