Negi(ネギ) means spring onion, not leek(リーキ).
Leeks don't have much taste and are used for making broth and such. Spring onions are pretty tasty and used as topping. Dunno how the japanese ones taste though.

Yea, leeks are pretty much just broth ingredient, they don't taste like anything, especially after you boil them,
On the other hand, spring onions are a topping, they have tons of flavor and are great in general.
Learning what negi actually is, unironically made me happy.
