dont think i ever even thought about retention or looked at my anki stats but i remember i used to hit hard on every card and i had shitloads of reviews every day so i was probably seeing the cards enough to remember them. if you look at my review time vs review count you can see it's a lot worse back then cause i also used to write all the sentences out in core6k by hand for some reason. you can also see the multiyear period where i basically just did nothing but anki and wasn't adding any cards
