One of the major issues with Gou (both anime & manga) is that up until this point, Ryukishi had used the cheap "magic brain parasites" excuse in Higurashi. As he's said in interviews, originally he did that because he was afraid that his readers wouldn't be able to forgive the characters otherwise. Basically, he had no confidence in his writing. Now he has more confidence but no more skill.

He views Satoko's case as no different from the magic culprit thing, but nobody else does. The audience expects a much more solid character motivation and development now that the magic pathogen isn't the culprit anymore. This disconnect is a big problem. Teppei's redemption also doesn't quite work for the same reason. His behavior wasn't attributed to the magic pathogen originally, and so, without that excuse, the audience expects better character building.

Sotsugyou is an attempt to fix what he did with 'hard' culprits like Takano and Teppei. Literally an answer to the graduating question he left open after Matsuribayashi. But it just doesn't work. It didn't work for Takano but people barely cared because her role was so far on the side. It didn't quite work for Teppei even if people were happy to see that. And Satoko is obviously the worst, because this bullshit is all completely new, her central role demands much more scrutiny in its writing and she was written into a goddamn impossible role--Just to satisfy Ryukishi's vague headcanon about this trio of the meep, the ohoho and the auau doing things together across all his works. Bleh.

Basically Ryukishi can't write anything better than Hinamizawa Syndrome. How the fuck did Umineko even come to be, I don't know.
