They're animals capable of complex thought and forming complex social systems. Taking care of a buri doesn't make you a shithead, at worst it means you're too compassionate. And the KoReimus may hate it, but they also aren't wired the way mother is. We see a buri, but she "sees" her perfect angel who happens to need assistance every moment of every day. That still doesn't make her a shithead, it makes her a good mother. Perhaps too good, as it may hamper development of the KoReimus.

But if there's the ability to both raise her normal children, and ensure the survival of the buri, then it's good to attempt both.
