The person who wins a tournament isn't necessarily the best. Every competition has some level of RNG, due to people not feeling 100% healthy 100% of the time or having potential distractions through their life, and most games have RNG baked into the game design for some more unpredictability, and Mario Kart is a shameless participant in this practice.

Imagine if one player was a bit better at something than another player, to the extent that one of the players had a 95% chance of winning if they fought. Now imagine they practiced 19 times and the favorite won every match, but then they play the "real" match - the tournament which everyone watches - and the favorite loses. That'd be considered a crazy upset, but I literally just said the underdog would win 1/20 matches and that's all he did.

Aqua was the favorite going into the tournament and she kicked everyone's asses in practice. The tournament was just not her day or RNG got the better of her. It's not like she underperformed, really, the biggest underperformer was Okayu. If you look at how well the girls did in practice and then compare it to the tournament results, the two correlate significantly, there's just a little bit of chaos thrown in, Aqua and Okayu performed a little worse, Suisei performed a little better, Towa disconnected. Otherwise, nothing looked weird.

No. Most shounenshitters are convinced their series is unique for "not having powerlevels," which is complete horseshit, powerlevels exist in real life. They think powerlevel exclusively refers to a single-dimension measure of strength that ultimately determines every fight. Which is silly, I don't think even Dragon Ball is that stupid. It's close, though.
