I don't even like Rin that much, and it still irks me when people treat them as the same character. Just one of the many reasons to hate pseudo-Servant shit.

All of them have definitely read FSN at least, and most of them read Tsukihime and other Fate spin-offs too. Nasu's old works are pretty influential among VNs, jap writers wouldn't just skip classics. The problem is that their personal styles more often than not don't mesh well with the series and what made Nasu's writing good, they just prefer to focus on bland chuuni and Servants. Higashide is a prime example of someone who started with Tsukihime, but focuses on all the worst aspects of TM.
Urobuchi and Narita are by far the best at using TM's universe properly while adapting it to their preferences, but then again they're a cut above the other writers.
