>Be a little mysterious
Some of the best stories start by presenting a mysterious statement or idea. While you can argue that this might be truer for mystery stories, a great way of beginning your story is presenting a mysterious conundrum or problem for your MC. This can be very effective, especially if the conundrum is relevant to the overall story. Asking a question, (i.e. Question - “Why is the sky blue?”) and then having the rest of the book be centred on answering that question, (Answer - “I dunno. Aliens or some shit?”) is a good way of directing the reader into the rest of the story.
