The cool thing about boundaries is that they're not limited to just portals/gaps. There could be boundaries between love and hate, humans and youkai, and boundaries between night and day. Imagine if you took elements from Okami and mixed them up with boundaries. Yukari could learn new abilities like changing night to day. Or perhaps, an ability to erase the boundary around a lake and make an area flooded.
