I just think it's silly to fight over the interpretations of Zun's artwork.
He draws like a retard. I mean, look at this picture. In almost every fight, they are killing the shit out of each other, but the Touhous look like happy morons on drugs. Properly interpreting what their current emotions are is difficult, especially when shopping a poorly drawn tear and bandage on. I'd just say Zun put that there to show that she has been defeated. Seems to be a thing in many Japanese games.
