without seeing it for ourselves, i can only think of two possibilities:
1. exposed vinyl under a thick faceup and you're seeing a transition between those layers
2. manufacturing defect where the vinyl wasn't completely mixed and you're seeing two material densities clash
in either case it's unfixable without concealing (by paint/refacing or clothes) or ignoring.
