hey guys I have cracked the mystery of edge.
the lyrics you have been taught are a lie.

I'm here to teach you the real meaning of edge and how it isn't a song about obsessing over love but a song about obsessing over a hasty rejection.

hear me out people.

a common theme in nakata's too deep for you works is with holding the use "I" or "you".
if you really look at his lyrics and know any Japanese you notice that edge has no I or you in it at all with the exception of "you say, oh yeah I'm loving you"

let me take you step by step thought the lyrics and give it the new meaning to follow the new logic.

"dan dan, suki ni naru, ki ni naru, suki ni naru"
(this part is feelings of regret and love slowly creeping up on the person)
(bit by bit, falling for you more, thinking about you more, falling for you more)
(in the context of the rest of the song I think it is a person thinking back to their rejection of a person and regretting it as they are starting to think about them more and their falling in love with them because of it)

one line and already we are deep as fuck.

(this part is a flash back to the moment they keep thinking about.)
(oh I see, so it's like that) or to be more literal (oh I see, it's like that isn't it)
(this part is a friend confessing their love to them and them being disappointed and annoyed by it)

(this is the exact part of rejection and this is where things get very ambiguous and very deep but either way it all comes out the same way really)

(I'm not sure if this is after the rejection or the rejection it's self as in I don't know if it is the person rejecting saying "oh I see and then tuning out while the person explains why they should be together or if the person rejects them and then the person who confessed says "oh I see" and then tunes out for the reason why. as I said it all turns out to mean the same shit anyway)
(the "I know oh yeah say loving you part" could be after the flash back saying oh shit I understand why I'm thinking about this now, it's because I love you. but it is likely just my extraordinary autism that takes a line that probably means nothing and stretch it that far)
