We've been here for years and years, so I wouldn't call it a mania.

Really, Zun's been pretty cool when it comes to people using his characters, so the thing about the Touhou fan base is that it's self-propagating. The fan work has the widest scope of any fan base I've seen, spawning not just pretty art, but music, games, videos, anime, 3D models, and a hell of a lot more, scaling all the way up to production-quality works. It's an international community that's put a lot of time and effort into what it likes, and when I say a lot of time and effort, it means that neither of us has any fucking clue. Here's a sampler...
