Thanks for the rec, anon. The MC of this game looks pretty entertaining as well. Pathetic boys are too moe for their own good.

I haven't played through Persona 5 yet, but Akechi seemed like a lesser Adachi to me. The appeal of Adachi was him working a job he despised, him constantly acting frugal and meek, and his general manchild tendencies. When you have a character like Akechi, who is a charismatic teenage prodigy detective, I think you lose much of the bitter loser at a dead-end job charm that Adachi had. Also, funny that you mention ZTD, I was planning to play it after finishing AI and getting the urge to finally finish going through every Zero Escape game but I think even ZTD looked too much like a clusterfuck for me. What made me want to play it the most though were the characters, specifically Eric as you mentioned. He looked like my type (slight manchild tendencies, awkward-looking faces and gestures, etc). I haven't gone through BWS but it does look promising; I'm a bit of picky storyfag so hopefully the plot isn't as much of a disappointment as it was described last thread.

You make a good point: pathetic characters are obviously pathetic, so it's easy to look down on them, turn them into joke characters, or just be plain disgusted by them. And, when you combine patheticness with an unpleasant personality, I guess it's too much for most people to be able to actually "like" the character. Still though, I think there could be a mass-market appeal for these types of ugly and pathetic characters considering how many people love characters like Komaeda.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about it, anon. Like I said, I'm not too well versed in otome games, but this is probably one of the more unorthodox VNs I've played through, otome or otherwise. The ending with the main boy, Zaijyouin (picture related), is pretty conclusive, but as one reviewer says: no matter which ending you read, it leaves a slightly bad aftertaste, which is a compliment considering that it's an utsuge.
