Spedread Umineko in about 3 weeks
it really was a medium meant to be discussed around the early internet during its episodic release
the whole yasu thing felt like a contrived conclusion that the entire questions arc didn't focus on so it never became a possibility to me in the first place (which is why I mentioned how reading episodically in one sitting managed to 'blind' me in a sense, being left to ponder over the latest episode is what would lead people to realize these things)
came for battler being a loveable retard to hate magic, got an "the truth is what you perceive even if it does consist of wigs and water balloons" ending, this also caused me to whittle bern's game down to either battler or george's family and I chose the latter for my first guess since george said "theres no one that could have killed nanjo inside the guest house" and assumed he killed kanon on the 4/5th twilight while eva/hideyoshi killed shannon
it was still an enjoyable experience though, and perhaps a second look through at some episodes would prove fun with things learned
I plan on playing Higurashi now and have read that it's a bit more reasonable when allowing the reader to form a solution?

After reading the manga and watching the narnith LP all the things I found boring my first time playing it like Maria/Ange bullying and all Yasu scenes made me cry
Also Hope made me cry when I heard it again for the first time after not listening to it in a few years, just like You did
Umineko might have a few flaws here and there but I seriously doubt anything will ever top it for me

As someone who's a fan of Yasu, Chiru was shit precisely because we got way too little focus on the actual Yasu in favor of more meta-Beato shipping scenes. Battler being obsessed with having Chick-Beato put up her witch facade again in EP6 is disturbing as hell when you consider that he's basically refusing to accept Sayo for who she is and confirming all the fears and insecurities Shannon had that led to her "transferring" her love.

I disagree, it's a murder mystery which decides to change genre's midway through. Play through the first chapter again and tell me that the ending was planned from the beginning. (I mean in terms of tone, I realize he left clues in there. He probably put them in, the wrote around them, rather then the other way round.) Completely wrecks it's tone, I'm fairly certain someone in the writing team left or something because the change is so rapid.

But what actually bugs me is the deep ties to Higurashi. The post-modern 'decide your own truth because I couldn't be fucked' stuff with Rika, the concept of boardgames and closed box stuff, honestly ruins Higurashi's fantasy mood.
