They were cursed by Eros to be unable to know true love after they whispered promises of loving affections and happy families to men before they abducted them but kept no such promises pre-Succubus Demon Lord. The curse remains because, ultimately, the Demon Lord can't exactly travel into the heavens and ask a love deity to undo such a thing for fairly plain obvious reasons.

Until the Demon Lord invades Heaven Diablo style to put a stop to the Chief Goddess of course.

Could "MGE it up" by saying individual curses can be broken with enough love involved and it would ultimately explain away why the Demon Lord wouldn't just go and wipe them out.
