I think both of you are confused here. Mercy and Love are only cute words on paper. In practice, they are very harsh.

Byakuren was moved by selfish gain at first, but was moved to mercy at seeing the plight of monsters/youkai, thus she did terrible things to her own race. All this ended when people wisened up on her and sent her to Makai for a thousand years or so.

Byakuren is merciful and perhaps good, but that does not excuse her actions. Thus why she is trying to go for the coexistence bit.
