What no, why would you do that. Start with the first game in the series.

It's cool because you can tell that the second game was merely an "extension" of the first. They weren't trying anything new with the sequel (which was great). All the recurring themes and character roles were done quite well too.

You can also transfer over your save game from the first Suikoden and unlock extra stuff. I felt this added a lot personally, since it tied it back to the first game even more.

Luc was such a homo side character in the previous games too, but he finally turned awesome in Suikoden 3.

Sudo did. And it's an awesome game that deserves to be mentioned.

I think I prefer Suikoden 1 though. That OST is too beautiful; it's one of the best RPG soundtracks ever made IMO. But otherwise both games are pretty equally great.
