He has a budding Roran entourage. Their motivations are to enforce the superior master race. And also get the player to level 9999. But in order to do that, they'll have to outpace him first to ensure his safety and their self interests.
Of course, generic adventurer doesn't really know or care about anything else but grinding to become the strongest adventurer, like no one ever was.
