I think it needs to stay mostly the same from the player's perspective. Era isn't about actively playing a 2d shooting game, you got mainline games for that. It has to stay turn based and in a big part RNG based anyway.
The overhaul should be more about what happens before and after the fight. Like betting on watched fights or even your own, cheering a girl on, getting cheered by someone, hate marks letting girls start fights with you, and most importantly just letting 2hus have danmaku fights with each other in the first place. It's so strange that it's missing from the game when it's such a big part of the setting.
