Generally speaking, the majority of fanart of anything isn't going to be good. Popularity doesn't really change the quality ratio of good art vs bad art. If anything, an unpopular ship is likely to get stuck with shit art until she catches the eye of someone with talent.
The only ships who have a good quality ratio are unpopular ships who miraculously end up with one or two dedicated artists.
