Because its five in the morning and I don't have anything better to to do. I love you, /jp/.

Now, here's why "Nice guys finish last."

First of all, I am really pleased at the positive reaction I’ve gotten from my Taylor Swift analysis! Thanks to everyone who read it; I know it was painfully long with lots of phrases in bold. As I mentioned in that entry, another feminism-related topic I wanted to cover is “Nice Guy Syndrome.”

Okurr, for those of you who may not know, the term “Nice Guy Syndrome” basically refers to the situation in which a straight guy and a girl are friends, the straight guy is attracted to the girl, it’s not reciprocated, and even still the guy continues to pursue or even expect the girl’s affection because he’s so “Nice.” I’ve often heard phrases like “Girls just don’t like me because I’m too nice,” or “The girl I like doesn’t like me, because she only likes jerks,” or the worst (in my humble opinion) “I’m so nice to her, but she won’t date/hook up with/sleep with/have feelings for me? What a bitch!” Obviously this issue ranges across genders, but the term I’ve heard most refers to straight men who behave in this way. I am not a man-hater; I’m just trying to use the terms I know and generalize to encourage understanding.

At first glance, I didn’t realize the problem in “Nice Guy Syndrome.” Girls are trained to want princes, and women are trained to want a romantic comedy, so why would a nice guy be a problem? Here’s the thing: If a guy is your friend and refuses to listen to the fact that you are not attracted to him, he is neither nice nor is he really your friend.
